Staying Agile In Business Administration With Microsoft CRM

Filed under: Business, Communications, Computers, General, Internet Business — Paper Euphoria @ 8:39 pm

The business software Microsoft has been developing lately is quite impressive. It allows business owners to streamline most of their business, making more time for growth and administrating employees. The Microsoft Dynamics CRM software popular today is a clear example of good software design.

Businesses that are focused around customer support and lead generation absolutely need a software package like Microsoft CRM. The program allows the data entry of new possible leads, with editable fields to fit any industry. It also allows for business officers to quickly find leads based on name, telephone number, or other fields that act as a good search metric.

Managing an employee is easy enough when your business is small- it might only take you a few hours each quarter to get everything lined out. But multiply that by ten once you grow a little the next year, and you can see why the outdated system of pen and paper is a massive time-waster. Microsoft CRM includes support to manage employees, log their payroll data, and to keep track of their position in the company.

The analytics package bears incredible resemblance to the Microsoft Excel functionality. Users can quickly create and edit graphs based on supplied information. This is vital for analyzing data the business has to make more efficient business decisions for the future. You might apply this to an Internet marketing plan, to track profits and expenses, and to see which lead generation specialists are earning the most. It also helps spur motivation to publish lists of the most fruitful employees.

Some types of companies, such as web development company, operate solely based on contracts. You could have a mountain of paper hidden away in a file cabinet if you would so wish it, but you could have the easier alternative of using Microsoft Dynamics. The software package allows for contracts to be stored in a database for easy retrieval should you have to reference the contract or have a dispute. You’ll never lose a contract again- or a court battle based on misplacing it.

Business professionals always have a hectic schedule. They need to know where they have to be of every hour in each day if they are going to stay on top of their business- which is why many will simply hire a secretary. While you can still hire a secretary, you might have him or her use Microsoft Dynamics in order to track and create your schedule. The CRM package only takes a few minutes to create a new schedule, and it can be printed out in a matter of seconds for safekeeping.

In Conclusion

Microsoft Dynamics CRM is a great package for small and large businesses. As businesses grow, you will notice that organization quickly starts to stumble. Consider trying out a free trial of Microsoft Dynamics CRM provided by Microsoft to see if the package is right for you.

The Benefits Of Hearing Aids That Have Touch Screen Features

The touch screen technologies you see in modern electronics is something seen as entertaining- certainly not something that increases the functionality of devices by a significant amount. For hearing aids, touch screens have opened up a new door to usability and costs for the elderly.

Fiddling around with your conventional hearing aid is tedious when trying to modify volume levels. With mechanical controls it is easy to over compensate. Digital touch screen controls are easier to control, as they instead change volume based on the swiping motion of the finger. Internal controls and sensitivity can also be modified by yourself or a professional to fine tune everything.

A problem that the hard of hearing had with hearing aids was that they weren’t quickly adjusted in times of great urgency. You might get a phone call while handling children, for instance. Tinkering around with your ear piece isn’t viable when you have to hold a phone and handle the antics of children at the same time. With touch screen technology, you would only need to quickly touch your ear piece once and be done with the matter.

The benefit of not having exterior controls is that the device overall will benefit from being more closed to the outside environment. Thus, there will be a greater tolerance to things such as humidity. Previously it was a problem to take hearing aids into humid environments that could cause faults in the electronics. Digital hearing aids are more hardy in this respect, making them last longer on average.

The life span of a touch screen enabled hearing aid is greater, as they are less susceptible to mechanical breakdown. Mechanical devices can be affected by dirt, grime, and moisture. Digital hearing aids don’t have the exterior parts that conventional hearing aids do, and so, they are less susceptible to the elements. That means they will last longer on average when considering terms of mechanical wear and tear.

The cost of digital hearing aids has plummeted, despite the reasoning that newer technologies are usually more expensive. Technologies that are easily produced and manufactured are sold at lower prices, and this is just the case for the digital hearing aids with touch screen technologies. Manufacturers can churn out a great number of the devices at a lower cost, which then gets passed onto the consumer when he or she goes to but it from a retailer.

Final Thoughts

Hearing loss is no longer the sad news it once was. Today we can either solve the problem of hearing loss or remedy the effects. Digital hearing aids are paving the way to success in terms of circumventing the effects of hearing loss. Talk to a doctor to see what your budget allows, and to see if a digital hearing aid is for you.

Configuring A Basic Network In Packet Tracer

Filed under: Communications, General, Reference And Education, Technology — Paper Euphoria @ 4:47 pm

Programs that are meant for engineering professionals never are easy to learn- but practice makes perfect! Packet Tracer is a good example of a tough program released by Cisco, of which even making a small computer network can pose a challenge.

Having a networked based on a hub is easy enough- there isn’t any significant configuration. Putting a router in the network is a different story, however, since it will separate networks. Because it does so, any network containing a router will have at least two different network addresses for proper communication. Configuring them is just a matter of assigning the correct addresses and settings.

Make certain that you are using a crossover cable when connecting the desktop to the Ethernet port of the router. Computers and routers are both “like” devices, so you wouldn’t want to use a straight-through cable to connect them. Also make sure that you have a console cable if you plan on configuring the router on a real network, as you will not be able to access the running configuration otherwise.

The first step in completing the network is to assign IP addresses to each computer and Ethernet interface on the router. You should have two separate networks: one for each computer and interface. The interface and computer for each network should have different IP addresses, giving you a total of four IP addresses to assign. The Ethernet interfaces are assigned in the Cisco Command Line Interface, while the desktops must be configured separately.

After configuring the IP addresses, you will need to configure what is called a gateway address. The gateway address is simply the IP address of the Ethernet port that a computer is connected to. The gateway tells a computer where to send and receive information that comes across the network. This address is edited on the desktop in the IP address settings. Without it, information would never reach its target destination.

We can confirm that the network was set up properly by pinging a computer from another. As long as you did everything correctly, you should get a success message when using the command line interface. If you get an error regarding a time out, odds are you have input the wrong IP address information or forgot to open the Ethernet ports of the router. Troubleshooting is a valuable skill to have, so try to fix the problem yourself before asking for help if you get stuck on a problem.

Final Thoughts

The small network described is functional, and is even used in real world applications. Using Packet Tracer will simplify the process of designing the network so that you can save time in the overall process, and put more time into troubleshooting and problems that arise during the course of the implementation.

Making The Decision To Outsource Technology Departments

Filed under: Communications, Computers, General, Internet Business — Paper Euphoria @ 11:10 am

Outsourcing is an action taken on by businesses who want to save time and money in their business development. Offshore companies gladly take on the responsibilities of departments you would otherwise spend an arm and a leg in obtaining.

Security is important for a firm that deals with technology. If the majority of your business comes from the Internet, and the website goes down due to a hacker or other malicious activity, you will be in a world of hurt as you try to figure out what went wrong. Offshore IT programs are able to prevent security flaws, yet also fix them when things inevitably do go wrong.

Senior-level technology agents can cost as high as $100,000. That’s about as much as a medium-sized business makes in a year, so it isn’t cost effective to hire several of these experts to run your own network. The same level of qualifications can be obtained through outsourcing, yet the cost of outsourcing is but a fraction of the cost it would take to hire even one person.

Data backup is good in theory and expensive in pursuing. As you probably don’t have the latest servers, software, and users to run them- the best option is to outsource data recovery and backup. Small businesses of any kind are urged to do so, lest they lose their entire business operation with a single mistake or security flaw. Data recovery can also circumvent hardware failure- a problem facing all companies.

Perhaps most invaluable to a business is the expertise computer network specialists provide. With outsourcing your IT department, you get unlimited access to support. Thus, you can do all of the actions required to build a network with a single person with instruction via phone. Once a network is setup, it can be run remotely so that you will never have to touch it again. Instead, the company outsourced to will handle all troubleshooting.

Consider pricing when you look for an IT outsourcing company. You should look for a solution that is moderately priced. If you price yourself too low, you will get an inexperienced team and fewer options. If you pay too much, you might run your budget up and be less able to divert capital to other more important departments. Consult at least three companies before making a decision on who to outsource to.

Closing Comments

An outsourced IT department has a lot to gain for the business going through the transition. However, outsourcing may not be right for you and your business. To find out, it’s best to go through a trial or a test month with a third party service to judge its worth for your budget.

Cisco Network Simulators Available For Immediate Download

Filed under: Communications, Computers, General, Product Reviews, Technology — Paper Euphoria @ 10:36 pm

A network emulator built for Cisco products will try to recreate the physical process of assembling a network, as well as going through the logic of the ordeal. Several choices exist, some being free and some paid, so that students and instructors alike can benefit from using the programs to get more practice in.

An expensive yet thorough solution is with Boson’s software packaged named Netsim. Netsim ranges in value, from $200 to $500, depending on the licensing and options needed. Netsim is the best bet for instructors, as it comes loaded with plenty of extras such as activities and grading programs. Perhaps less affordable for students, who are usually on a tight budget.

Dynagen is another program, only it’s absolutely free. Dynagen is an open source program that is built on the Dynamips emulator, available free to download at any time. Dynagen is criticized for its lack of an intuitive interface, yet also hailed as a very functional program once it’s learned. For the seemingly learning impaired, there are better options out there.

Dynamips also has GNS-3 to work with. Between Dynagen and GNS-3, GNS-3 is used more frequently among students. Students that are just beginning will be turned away from the difficult use of Dynagen. Luckily, GNS-3 has a forum, video documentation of using the program, and plenty of helping supporters. Students that are self-learning and not in a Cisco class will find this computer network simulator to be one of the finest of the bunch.

Packet Tracer is known to be the king of the industry. Cisco created this software for its own students in the CCNA course. It has the best tutorials, design, and functionality of all the programs listed. The only problem is that if you aren’t a Cisco student, alumni, or instructor- you won’t be able to get your hands on it. You couldn’t get it even if you offered them money; Cisco is strict on only allowing students to get their hands on this fine software. It’s at least worth considering a Cisco class to obtain.

Desktop programs allow for your computer to create very realistic environments for you to use in learning about networks. You may go the route less traveled and instead sign up for a web-based emulation package. Just like desktop software, these programs may or may not charge a fee for using them. You will need an Internet connection to access them, so they aren’t always available when you need them.

Final Thoughts

You won’t find a much better network simulation package than Cisco’s Packet Tracer. If you can, find a way to get the program either by enrolling in the Cisco Academy or finding other means of getting it. It’s currently the best there is for learning advanced course materials.

Common English Grammar Mistakes That You Should Avoid

Filed under: Communications, General, Home And Family, Self Improvement, Writing And Speaking — Paper Euphoria @ 12:28 pm

When you slip up on your grammar, you will look like you are uneducated. If you are in a position such as a job interview, you could easily sacrifice your hard work in getting the interview because of a lack of training in grammar. Luckily, English grammar is easy to get down.

Contractions are hard to get down for some. Perhaps one of the most common mistakes is the use of “your” and “you’re.” When you see the contraction “you’re” you should be able to replace it with “you are” and the sentence should make sense still. “Your” is instead used to show ownership of an item. An example could be “She said you’re welcome to have a cookie, so make your decision.” As we can see, the sentence makes sense when using “you are” in place of contractions.

Now we come to a predicament; the English language has three like-sounding constructive words with “their,” they’re,” and “there.” The contraction is easy: just replace it with “they are” and check to see if it makes sense. “Their” is used to show ownership. “There” is used to point out a location in proper context.

Sometimes even the professionals can get tripped up on the proper usage of some words. “Effect” and “affect” is a pair of words that tend to do this. When you use the two words, always remember that “affect” is going to be a verb, and it will do action in a sentence, such as “Germs affect health.” On the other hand we have “effect,” which is a noun or adjective, and is used in a case such as “The effect of being sick is missing school or work.”

When migrating to English from another language, you will agree the change isn’t easy. Some grammar structure is hard to get down, such as using “a” and “an.” When using “an,” you should verify the next word either starts with a vowel or sounds like it does. It’s easy to see that a word starts with a vowel, but a word such as “hour” could throw newcomers off. The best bet would be to learn different words and how they sound to prevent making a mistake.

Last but not least, we have the debate of using “good” and using “well.” Good is an adjective, but is incorrectly used as an adverb much of the time when saying something like “I am feeling good.” This is incorrect, and should instead be “I am feeling well.” Note that the word “well” can also be an adjective in some cases.

Closing Comments

The English language is a tough one to master. Don’t give up in your struggle to succeed in English, and in as little as a year it’s safe to say you can have the majority of the language down. Keep up with your practice and you will see results.

A Checklist Of Methods To Secure Your Dedicated Server

Filed under: Communications, Computers, General, Home And Family, Society — Paper Euphoria @ 10:16 pm

It’s not fun to go through your server and close every opening that a malicious web user can take advantage of. Nevertheless, it is completely necessary to keep your web site running and free of harm. To get started, you should be open your control panel and forage around your options menu.

Start a security plan right away. Decide who is going to have access to what, when, and for what reasons. This not only includes anyone you want to give access to the server, but also users who will visit your website. Sometimes you may allow users to upload files and have permissions to delete certain things- be very careful in what you allow at this point as this is dangerous.

Stay up to date on your modules that you load onto the server. An example would be with the PHP module that allows a server to run PHP code. Every so often, there will be security exploits found out that are solved through a new release of the module. By staying up to date on patches, you will avoid the destruction of your server through careless administration.

Not only can your back end create security problems, but so too can the languages you use to code your website. Languages today are very popular. A language like MySQL will allow you to delete an entire table without warning with a simple command, so long as a user has authority to run it. Protecting your passwords and securing any methods of things such as SQL injection is dire.

It’s not always about what you have on your server, but rather what you don’t have. It’s good practice to delete any modules you aren’t using, and to close all ports you are sure that you will not be using in the future. The reasoning behind this is that if you have a spare module you don’t pay attention to, a user could take advantage of your lack of awareness and take advantage of a security exploit in an older version of the module.

A back up of your files and database will be the cure for when something does go wrong- and odds are it will. You don’t even have to go face to face with a bad user to have this happen- a simple accident of deleting something can turn your entire server awry. It’s best to back up on a regular basis, such as every Friday, to keep up the routine and not slack off on this vital part to your server administration.

Final Thoughts

Web hosting is a business that requires attention to detail. You can tackle your security problems by updating all your modules, cutting those you don’t use, and carefully programming your website to be free of bugs. Nothing is 100% secure, so also make use of backups in the case of an accident.

A Look At The Functions Of The Sony BDP-S560 Media Player

Filed under: Communications, Computers, General, Product Reviews, Technology — Paper Euphoria @ 9:47 pm

Sony has long been in the business of pleasing fans of electronics, and in this case a Blu-ray disc player, but their latest model the BDP-S560 is turning heads. In this review we will investigate what exactly makes the model so appealing and how it stacks up against the competition.

For those who aren’t hip on the Blu-ray story, you might be surprised to hear that none other than Sony actually created the new format. As such, they had to create a media player that would the media. It has given the company somewhat of a monopoly over their own self-created market. And as luck would have it, movie distributors have supported the Blu-ray format completely- giving customers a wide selection of media.

The Sony BDP-S560 is a great pick for your first time looking at a Blu-ray disc player. This model features a backwards compatibility feature that will even allow you to play all of the DVD formats in your collection- so you won’t have to throw them away and buy them again. Played through the superior video format, they will also look better when played on the Blu-ray disc player.

Remember in the olden days of DVD players, how when you tried to navigate throughout the menu you often became frustrated? Sony replaced this frustration with glee, as they have released a similar interface to their PS3 interface for use on the BDP-S560. The “Xross” display allows one to easily navigate options and menus like it is second nature.

Sony also realized that the picture quality and storage options wasn’t what made the movie experience- but rather the sound had a large part to play. Sony, thus, decided to give the player compatibility with Dolby TrueHD, which is the next big format in sound quality and design. The format will essentially allow those with high definition audio to feel as if they are in a movie theater- without the ticket price of course.

Ports are important for getting a device to hook up with another and share information. Sony included just about every port there is to ensure that if there is a need for the device to hook up to anything, the option to do it will be there. A rather odd port for a media player, the Ethernet port, has even been included to network your Sony BDP-S560 to other devices supporting the standard. It’s innovation like this that really puts the frosting on the cake for consumers.

In Conclusion

You really can’t go wrong in purchasing the Sony BDP-S560 disc player. It does a lot of work to ensure consumers can do anything they like, whether ordinary or not so common. Look for them in stores to compare and shop.

The Difference Between The Several Types Of Web Servers

Filed under: Communications, General, Home And Family, Society, Technology — Paper Euphoria @ 5:05 am

Web servers are the backbone of your website- allowing it to be served to all the visitors who would visit it. Varying degrees of traffic and needs would require that you get different types of servers. So before you start out with your new website, you must first decide on which web server best fits your needs.

The entry-level server type is shared hosting. Shared hosting puts you on a server with anywhere from a few to large amount of other webmasters. The main reason you would go for shared hosting is because it is insanely cheap. At the same time, having other webmasters on the server means you could have downtime associated with problems with other websites on the server.

A type of shared hosting that gives you more control is known as a virtual private server. A VPS is the next upgrade from the shared hosting environment, but only necessary if you actually need the freedom that a VPS provides. A VPS isn’t always any more stable or powerful than your typical shared hosting environment, so if what you need is power then you may have to upgrade to a dedicated server plan.

The final upgrade is more expensive, but offers the freedom of a VPS and the hardware upgrades that you will no doubt need if your websites become popular. Dedicated servers usually start around $100 each month and only rise from there, depending on the hardware you decide to side with. It can be hard to stomach, but it’s nice to have your own server to yourself.

If you don’t plan on having a website at all, and only intend to resell server space, the reseller option is best for you. Dedicated servers already give you access to modify the bandwidth and disk space limitations of all accounts, so they are naturally good choices. A VPS can do the same thing, and even shared servers can accomplish this task through specific configurations. You get what you pay for, and you can only offer others what you yourself have to give.

There are exceptions to the rules in each case. You can have a dedicated server that is running subpar hardware, and you can even obtain it at a price in the neighborhood of what you would pay for a virtual private server. In the same manner of speaking, you are able to obtain a virtual private server with a heap of RAM and CPU power that allows you to get managed support with the power of a dedicated server for no extra cost.

In Conclusion

Making a website is less expensive than you would think. Shared hosting and domains are quite inexpensive these days, so anyone with an interest in web design and web development can get started with next to nothing.

How Ad-Aware Pro 2009 Stacks Up As An Anti-Malware Tool

Filed under: Communications, Computers, Product Reviews, Society, Technology — Paper Euphoria @ 3:49 am

It’s come to the point that hackers and security companies are continually playing a game of cat and mouse. You wouldn’t want to be caught in the middle of the war without a program that is able to guard your computer against attacks, so it is useful to become educated on the options in security software such as Ad-Aware Pro.

Ad-Aware Pro is not a free product, so you will have to front a bit of capital in order to obtain it. At the time of writing, the Ad-Aware Pro edition was slated at just under $40 for a one-year license. Since the price is the first thing we look at when getting a product, you might also consider extending coverage to a longer license for a cheaper rate.

The marketing some websites make use of today is horrendous. Pop-up advertisements are a good example of such an annoyance, and thankfully Ad-Aware Pro is able to get rid of them without any further cost to the software owner. The built in pop-up blocker has performed quite well in tests; getting rid of the advertisements and of course allowing popup applications that weren’t ads.

Ad-Aware Pro 2009 comes with a real-time protection feature that can stop spy-ware and malware from installing itself as soon as it is spotted. That way you won’t have to focus on fixing your computer after an attack, but rather you can rest easy knowing that Ad-Aware will catch most types of malware before they are even able to install and infect your computer. As malware definitions increase, so too does your security.

It shouldn’t be too surprising that a large company like Lavasoft has a lot of questions to answer on a periodical basis. The response time in technical support should, thus, not be considered to be instantaneous. At the same time customers of Lavasoft have voiced their concerns that the response times in recent times has been unacceptable. If you need technical support, you had also better have a fair amount of patience as well.

There are other programs to consider in your purchase decision. You will notice in your comparison that Ad-Aware is of the higher priced programs. It also is more geared towards the technical-savvy in some applications. The extra benefits the program provides the user is worth the price to some, but only if the lack of support isn’t something that isn’t going to bother you. You are able to try it for free among some download mirrors.

In Conclusion

$40 can be a lot of money for a year of protection, but then again it’s better to pay $40 than to replace a computer that cost over twenty times that amount. Find other programs to compare it to so you make the right decision.
